HUELVA SUFFERS ANOTHER FIRE

Another fire in Huelva province forced 150 people out of their homes in a residential complex called Puerto Blanco in the Valverde del Camino municipality on Saturday. More than 150 fire fighters are in the area trying to put out the fire but it was still blazing on Sunday morning and the local authorities said they had not had time to estimate the extent of the damage. The biggest fire in Huelva and Sevilla provinces in the last 14 years recently destroyed almost 30,000 hectares of forest and scrubland. Meanwhile, the fire (inset photo) which destroyed almost 8,000 hectares of forest and countryside in JaƩn province was finally brought under control by fire fighters on Friday. No towns or villages were threatened but the area, described by Ecologists in Action as of exceptional natural value, was home to many threatened species such as the imperial eagle. The Guardia Civil believe the fire could have been started because of a fight between two hunters, although a spokesman for the Junta de Andalucia said the blaze was due to natural causes.
