Countries subject to the Schengen agreement, apart from Spain, are now demanding an entry visa from Ecuadorian nationals. Spain, who was the instigator of the scheme because it has the highest inflow of Ecuadorians, is not yet prepared and will need a few months more before it too will refuse entry to those who do not possess valid visas. The new regulation came into force on 1st June in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxemburg, Norway, Holland, Portugal and Sweden, and means that people from Ecuador can visit those countries for short periods but the visas will not enable them to live or work there.
