11 ARRESTED FOR ROBBERIES

Edition: 525

The police have arrested 11 people from Argentina who are accused of having carried out robberies from shops, banks and businesses in Marbella, Churriana and Fuengirola. They are also suspected of being involved in similar thefts in other parts of the country. The gang, which police describe as extremely violent, led an expensive lifestyle despite apparently having no income and used hire cars to move about the Costa del Sol. They carried fake identification, which they changed from time to time, enabling them to travel freely between their own country and Spain without arousing suspicion. As well as arresting the suspects, the police discovered jewellery worth 350,000 euros, 10,800 euros in cash, three guns and a large knife. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible.
