Seven people were killed when a gas leak caused an explosion in Palencia, in Castilla-Leon, last Tuesday and several were injured. Rescuers searched all week for two others - a woman of 88 and a Romanian man aged 24 - who were missing. However, last Saturday human remains were found among the rubble that had already been removed from the area and DNA testing is being carried out to find if they belong to the two missing people. Meanwhile, the government announced last Friday that survivors would receive up to 67,000 euros in compensation. The Castilla-Leon regional government also handed over the keys of 22 houses to the families that were most affected by the explosion. Several other families are being lodged in hotels until it is decided if their flats can be saved.
