Edition 526
While most of Europe's most contaminating power stations are located in the UK or Germany (ten in each country), Spain's Endesa is the proud owner of the ninth dirtiest one - at As Pontes in Galicia, according to a report published by WWF/Adena last week. A spokesman for the NGO said the electricity sector is responsible for a quarter of all CO2 emissions in Spain, largely because it uses coal-fired power stations, which produces more CO2 per kwh produced. He said: "We can't countenance an electricity sector where the dirtiest are the wealthiest."
