AMNESTY FOR 70 SPANISH PRISONERS

Edition: 322
Date: 12-05-03

Seventy of the 84 Spanish prisoners being held in Moroccan prisons were due to be released at the weekend, thanks to the amnesty ordered by King Mohamed VI to commemorate the birth of his first son. The 14 prisoners who will have to remain in jail will benefit from reduced sentences. Most of the people being held in jail in Morocco have been convicted of drugs offences, and are serving sentences in Tangiers, Tetuán, Salé, Casablanca and Nador, or Agadir.
