REFUSE TO GO SAYS COORDINATOR

Edition: 321
Date: 05-05-03

The general coordinator of the Izquierda Unida political party (IU), Gaspar Llamazares, last week called for public service officials and members of the State security forces to refuse to go to Iraq. Speaking at a meeting in Castellón, he said those who refuse to go will be protected by legality, but those who decide to go will find themselves outside Spanish law, international law, and the United Nations. He also criticised Prime Minister José María Aznar for accepting the “excuses about the death of journalist José Couso, and said his party would not accept these “excuses…about the crime and assassination of Couso”.
